West Berkshire Local Government UNISON fully supports West Berkshire Council’s decision to mount a legal challenge to the government over its broken promise on funding for the Care Act.
Unless overturned, the government’s decision to leave a £3m hole in the Council’s budget will be paid for by poorer services for the people of West Berkshire and in the jobs of public sector workers who have already suffered real-terms cuts to their pay packets. David Pearson, West Berkshire UNISON Chairman, stated that, ‘We have made the Council’s management aware of our backing for the action they have taken’ ‘Nobody locally will win from the government’s decision and this union fully supports the stance that the Council has taken. Unless the government makes good on its original promise, there will further pressure on local services which are already creaking at the seams.’
