As part of its on-going commitment to its members, the West Berkshire Council Branch of UNISON wants to make sure that they are able to receive effective welfare support.
Members of staff experience many pressures in their lives affecting both home and work. Although the Council is frequently able to assist, UNISON also provides for its members
- financial assistance
- debt advice
- wellbeing breaks
- support and information
So that the Branch is able to provide this support, UNISON is looking for a volunteer to act as its Welfare Officer. The Branch Welfare Officer develops and co-ordinates local welfare activity, ensuring that local reps and other branch officers have regular up-to-date information about There for You (UNISON’s Welfare charity) and its range of services. The Welfare Officer also develops links with local charities and sources of support such as citizen’s advice bureaux and women’s refuges.
The ideal candidate will be well organised and have good communication, interpersonal and networking skills. These attributes will help ensure that members seeking welfare assistance receive a prompt, supportive and effective response.
To be eligible for consideration as the Welfare Officer you must be a UNISON member. In addition to carrying out this important work, those conducting it will develop key and transferrable skills that will enhance their CVs.
If you have an interest, the commitment, want to develop and want to know more, please contact David Lowe, UNISON branch secretary on 01635 519168 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for an informal discussion. Opportunity closes: 1700 on Tuesday 2 September 2015.
