Your Friend at Work

We are creating a space where it's OK for staff to not be OK.
Your Friend at Work is an important and much-needed campaign to help all staff (not just UNISON members). It's aimed at those who may be struggling with their emotional and mental wellbeing, you might feel lonely or isolated, or maybe you just need a chat and a confidential listening ear provided by someone outside of your team or service.
You can be a part of driving positive change by simply being more aware of how you and others are feeling. Sometimes it's easy to forget that everyone has their own battles to fight.
For example, when was the last time you asked a colleague how they are - and really listened when they told you?
How many times have you 'put on a brave face' when someone's asked if you're OK?
Do you sometimes feel lonely even in a room full of busy colleagues?
Have you taken 10 minutes just for you recently?
Your Friend at Work is not specifically about raising workplace issues - UNISON members can still do that as they always have done by contacting their local workplace rep or dropping a line to unison@westberks.gov.uk
It's also not an official counselling service and is not intended to be, but UNISON may be able to signpost further sources of help.
For more information, or if you would like to offer your time to help out, drop Lizzie and Maria a line at unisonyfaw@gmail.com.
